Looking for inspiration to create your Hero Hound?

Everyone knows the popular brown, tan, and white beagles—but there are actually far more colors and combinations than you might think! If you’re looking for inspiration for your Hero Hound, here’s an overview of how the different colors of beagles are typically categorized and what they look like!

Though there are 25 colors recognized by the American Kennel Club, including a handful of single colors, you’ll rarely see a beagle that isn’t the standard bicolored or tricolored. If you’re looking to properly register your Hero Hound as a champion in the Hero Hounds competitive league, you’ll want to make sure it looks the part!

The Basics of Beagle Colors

Bicolored

Beagles with two fur colors will always have a white base with the other color overtop. The most popular example is the lemon beagle, with its mix of pale orange and white!

Tricolored

Most people when they think of beagles think of the tricolored variant, typically one with a black ‘saddle’ marking—the splash of black fur on their backs. However, there are many more tricolored variants possible!

Bluetick and Redtick

Don’t worry, this doesn’t have anything to do with any pests! The term ‘ticked’ refers to a specific type of marking that some beagles have, giving their fur a speckled or mottled appearance rather than just the pure white base. Bluetick beagles have a grey-ish midnight blue speckles of fur, while redtick beagles have a similar pattern in a reddish or tan color.

Lemon

The lemon and white variant has recently grown in popularity. Lemon beagles feature an especially pale shade of tan, hence the name ‘lemon’. These bright colors perfectly match any Beagle’s sunny personality!

Red

This deep mahogany color has a dark appearance closer to orange than brown and offers an especially rich appearance. Though not a common color, it’s certain to give your Hero Hound a striking appearance.

Blue

Though not actually blue, this diluted black certainly looks blue! The blue color on a beagle can be difficult to differentiate from black without strong lighting to help you out, but it gives a unique shade to the coat.

Beagles aren’t just brown!

Fawn, tan, and brown are all shades for that popular tan color common to beagles. Fawn is the lightest of these, though not quite as pale as the lemon coloring, and brown is the darkest shade.
